Noreen Millar

Secretary, Sable Island Institute

Noreen Millar studied Sociology at Saint Mary’s University (BA ’89) and Acadia University (MA ’93).  She has worked in research for over 35 years within universities, government departments, health care institutions, and community groups. Her love of the simple question “why?” (and sometimes “why not?”) has led her on many enjoyable and exciting journeys.

She remembers hearing about the involvement of Zoe Lucas on Sable many years ago, and has always maintained an interest in learning more about the Island. Now she brings her time and wide variety of skills to support the work of the Sable Island Institute, in the role of Secretary, and as Chair of the Fundraising Committee.

Noreen lives in Halifax with her family where she has a long history of volunteering with local causes – school and recreational events, arts and culture organizations, and community groups.  When she’s not at work, she can occasionally be found playing a tune on her Norman guitar while singing with her sister at Northwood, cooking for family and friends, walking the Salt Marsh Trail, or honouring special moments in nature with her cell phone camera photos.
